Bellow is the list with the complete details and reviews you can choose from.

How to Chose the Best Kids Winter Coats

When parents are in the market shopping for the best kids’ winter coat, you need to take into account the type of activity that is the coat for before making the purchase. For a higher cardio activity such as snow showing, or running, etc…, you may want to look for a lightweight winter jacket to wear with more layers to help the kids to take off layers when sweating or as needed to adjust to the climate and the activity. On the other hand, if the activity is for lower cardio such as hiking, winter hiking, or skiing, for example, you may want to shop for a heavier jacket like a ski Parka or a heavier down coat to keep the kids nice and warm during the activity. The next one you need to consider is moisture as you need to pay attention to what would the destination requirement. If it will be an area with a lot of rain, then you need to add a waterproof to your list for kids to stay dry while performing their activity. But if an area where will be less rain, then a water-resistant would do the job. The following step is considering the insulation which comes in two options, either the Down or Synthetic jacket. The Dawn is a bit warmer and can be packed smaller but it doesn’t do well with water. So for a more wet environment, we recommend looking for a synthetic jacket. Your kids will be well protected by staying warm and dry. Now that you got it all covered, the last piece left would be your pick of one of the stylish casual jackets that your kid would love to wear so that it would not end up sitting in the closet.

  1. Great Article and really informative! These days I feel like you need to have at least 2 different winter jackets for kids since the weather varies quite a lot. I bought the one you call Stormer jackets since you can chose what one to wear, I find those really nice.

I also bought Expedition Coats just to be safe, but darn it they do cost money though! haha

    • Yes Toblas. 🙂 2 of my boys have 2 of best kids winter jackets each that we have within this article and the oldest one has 3 as he loves to join me on my expeditions, like when I did MT. Toubkal peak in winter, the highest in North Africa. We had to start at 4:00 am to do the last leg from base camp to the peak in freezing cold and on icy trails. But he was supper happy in his Expedition Down Parka.

A tip of the day: As a parent, always make sure to buy one extra size up jacket for kids as they grow fast so that the jacket would last more than expected at the same time, kids can always wear layers to make it a perfect fit. 🙂

  2. I am surprised that most people are not as active as me during winter. I find that my nephews and I quite enjoy hiking during winter, they love the snow and I love the fact that there is no bugs. However, getting the right jacket for my nephews are important because most of the time they had so much fun that they forget that they are cold.

I myself prefer parka for them. This will keep them extra warm and dry. I am going to check out Lands’ End Kids Expedition Down Winter Parka. Am I seeing it right that it is only $90? That is amazing!

    • Hello there and many thanks for your comment. Yes that Kids Expedition Down is a good deal for Best Kids Winter Jackets as it is 50% discount for the moment. You may want to take advantage of it. Cheers,

  3. Haha thanks for the article my guy! Ya know honestly, I don’t really have a need for winter jackets, as I’m from Florida. However, I was born and raised in New Jersey for 16 years, so I know just how much a great winter jacket is necessary. I think it’s funny that people down here get cold at like 50 degrees and I’m in a shirt and shorts like what are you guys talking about? XD But, I do plan to frequently visit up there and, who knows, maybe even move back up there. If so, I’ll be needing a new winter jacket suitable for the cold for myself and my kids. This article helped me find one, thanks again!

    • Best Quality Hiking boots is very happy to learn that Best Kids Winter Jackets article was helpful to you and to your kids. Enjoy and thanks for your comment.

  4. I have lived in northern Canada for many years and have purchased lots of winter coats for my kids. We found that the down filled jackets were sometimes too warm for active kids.  They were good for walking but not for hard playing that kids do.  The fleece lined jackets were our best option because the fleece seem to maintain the warmth factor longer than did article stuffing.  I was wondering if there is ever a sale on the fleece lined jackets for kids thinking about my grandkids.  Removal hoods is also a good idea.  Thanks for this comprehensive article on winter jackets for kids.

    • Many thanks for your feedback Anastazjia,

Very soon, I will be adding links to companies that sell our recommended fleece and all other products we recommend with the best price and we will make sure to find for our readers those on sale as well. Stay tuned.

  5. Glad I decided to stick around and surf around your site a little bit. I can see that the information you provide is very helpful because I have also been looking for some good winter jackets for my brother and sister because they’re still young but like to play in the snow and this article has averted a lot

    • Hello Misael, and thank you for your comment.

Enjoy your selection from our hot picks of Best Kids Winter Jackets. Cheers,

  6. I’ve always wondered how parents pick from all the great jackets around. Little people can get into everything and I appreciated that you first explained that you need to decide about protection from wet or dry situations. I have found that down insulation really takes a while to dry but synthetics can be very hot if you are running around.

I liked that there were 10 choices of jackets are varying prices. Lovely range.
